When it comes to getting a good night’s sleep, most people will try just about anything. Chances are that if you are someone who struggles to sleep at night, you’ve thought about trying CBD. However, it can be hard to figure out exactly what you need to take to get the results you want,  especially when it comes to cannabinoids.

There are two major cannabinoids that are used medicinally – CBD and THC. As you might have guessed from the name, they are distilled from the plant cannabis. However, they serve two different purposes when it comes to interacting with your body and its medical needs.

What is CBD?

CBD is the most common cannabinoid used for medical purposes. Its full name is cannabidiol and it is usually derived from cannabis sativa, which you would know as hemp. It acts as a mild sedative in most people which is what makes it helpful in many ways.

What is THC?

THC is another cannabinoid that has been found to help with sleep, though it is more likely to have a negative impact on your body when used on its own. If you use THC, you’ll want to use it a few hours before bed. THC is more of an upper than CBD, which helps your body to amp up before you relax.

When taken together, CBD and THC tend to balance out each other’s effects. This can be extremely helpful for those who have a particular reaction to one or the other cannabinoid. If you were only going to take one, CBD is recommended.

What are the Potential Side Effects?

Just because these are natural cannabinoids does not mean that they don’t have any potential side effects.  CBD and THC are both processed in the liver, so if you have issues with yours, make sure you talk to your doctor before beginning a cannabinoid regimen for sleep issues.

You should also talk to them about whether the cannabinoids will have any negative interactions with other medications you’ve been prescribed. They’ll be able to tell you what issues you might run into and what to watch out for. Make sure to take this seriously because it can have serious impacts on your health.

If you choose to use a product with THC in it, remember that it will show up on a drug test. even if recreational marijuana is legal in your state, employers can still say that anyone with drugs in their system can be terminated, so be careful with what you choose to use.

How Can You Take Cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids can be taken in a lot of different ways, but the most popular form is an ingestable oil. It’s also very popular as a topical oil, a vape-able liquid and added into food or water. The different forms can change the speed and way they act in your body, so you might need to try a few different ones before you find your perfect dose.
